Nitrous Oxide Near You
Visiting the dentist is nerve-wracking for many people, and that’s totally normal; a lot of us aren’t overly familiar with the ins and outs of dental treatments and of course, none of us want to experience any pain while in the dentist’s chair either.
This is how sedation dentistry, also known as sleep dentistry, was born. At our Devon dental clinic, our team is here to make sure that you remain comfortable throughout your appointment. Get in touch with us today to find out more.
What is Nitrous Oxide?
Nitrous oxide is also referred to by its colloquial name “laughing gas”. This form of sedation is administered through a mask that covers your nose and mouth, allowing you to breathe it in. The gas itself has been used within the realm of health care for over 150 years. It’s safe for patients of all ages and, upon inhaling it, you will experience a feeling of lightness and tranquility. This occurs because the chemicals interfere with the pain receptors in your body.
The effects of nitrous oxide are immediate, and they wear off just as quickly. You’ll be able to continue with the rest of your day after your appointment is over. That said, it’s always recommended that you have someone there with you to take you home afterward.

Possible Side Effects
Once again, nitrous oxide is safe for patients both young and old, and the majority of people don’t experience any side effects from it. However, if symptoms do occur, they will most likely be temporary. These include:
- Shivering.
- Feeling nauseous.
- Dizziness.
- Sweating.
- Fatigue.
If you have any concerns at all, don’t hesitate to let your dental team know so they can address them accordingly.
At Devon Dental Associates, we provide nitrous oxide sedation to patients who need it. Our staff looks forward to working with you and your family and getting your oral health back to where it should be. Call, come in, or go to our website to set up a consultation today!
